With the spread of technologies like AI and Machine Learning models, the entertainment industry will change. Using foresight and trend mapping, this project explored a possible future of entertainment.
The project was a collaboration between myself, Noah Falck-Naess and Bojana Tudorovic. The ideas shown were brainstormed together in multiple sessions and then visualised by me.
The project began by defining current entertainment. We categorized entertainment types by senses and used foresight to identify which forms are likely to persist and evolve.
Using the surviving entertainment forms from the first map we predicted how they might evolve and change, in regards to emerging technologies.
These are the common trends identified in the evolved entertainment.
Human needs and behaviours were analysed based on examples of emotions and their impact on the newly created behaviour to understand the potential of such entertainment forms.
Another key factor for the future of entertainment is the markets involved, as shown in the map above.
A map of future opportunities in terms of technology was created based on the above factors. The map was then used to predict six ideal future scenarios.
Visualisations of ideal future experiences were done using AI-generating software such as Midjourney and Adobe Firefly:
With the rise of this new type of immersive technology, we’re taking the whole of entertainment to a new level. Nowadays the field of entertainment is based on video games using VR headsets, surround sound stereos and Bluetooth devices, and 4D movies. What if we pushed it further? What does the future hold?
To start, experiences in which people are ready to engage today were highlighted in the map above.
The predicted entertainment forms were divided into those which are to be implemented today and those which should be saved for the future, to experience life to the fullest.
